A great round of six under par 65 carried Hamish Robertson (igolf) from Taihape to victory in the first pro-am event of the year today, the Quinovic Waikanae Pro-Am.
Starting on the 15th hole, Robertson birdied the 16th, made bogey on 17, than added another birdie on 18. He then reeled off five straight threes on holes one to five, the last one an eagle, to get to five under par. He made two more birdies, one on his last hole that got him in front of the chasers, almost ruining his chances with a double-bogey on the par three 8th hole.
Peter Fowler from Auckland/Australia, Alex Tait (igolf) from Northland and Hawkes Bay’s Doug Holloway tied second one shot back with rounds of 66.
Another Northlander in Dale Clarke (igolf) was alone in 5th place with a 67, one in front of the trio of Richard Lee, Gareth Paddison and Mark Purser.
It was a day of exceptional golf on a true links course and a stiff breeze made for honest golf. You cannot get scoring this good without perfect greens and full credit to all concerned at the club for the obvious effort that was put in to present the course as they did.
