igolf’s Mike Hendry has secured his 2nd Charles Tour win out of three for the year, with a 2 shot victory at the Port Taranaki Open today. Hendry battled through rough conditions with heavy rain and high winds to cruise to a comfortable 2 shot win over Doug Holloway, whom he was tied with coming into this, the final round.

Hendry said, “That is the hardest day that I have ever had to play in my life,” after his round. “The wind coming down the last seven holes was incredible, plus the rain and the cold. I have never hit driver and four-iron into a 320m hole before. It was unbelievable.”

The second Charles Tour win for Hendry this year, extends his NZPGA Order of Merit lead to $12,000, earning over $25,000 in NZ this year already.

The win for Hendry in the men’s event, and Lydia Ko’s demolition of the women’s field, winning by 9 shots, means the Institute of Golf brand is growing very quickly and shows it is the only brand when wanting success in elite golf around the country.
